In 1966, the Black Panther Party was born.
In 1966, the Black Panther Party was born in Oakland out of necessity. Police violence, economic exploitation, and systemic neglect were not abstract conditions—they were daily realities shaping Black life. The Panthers named these conditions for what they were and moved to change them. They studied, they organized, and they built—not to be included in a system that oppressed them, but to transform it.
Sixty years later, the conditions that gave rise to the Party have not disappeared. What remains is the question of responsibility. STUDY & ORGANIZE
The Black Panther Party placed political education at the center of its work. Members studied history, theory, and the conditions shaping their communities in order to act with clarity and purpose. That commitment to study remains essential to understanding both the Party and the world it sought to change.
This space brings together resources that deepen engagement with the history, ideas, and global significance of the Black Panther Party. It is designed for students, educators, organizers, and anyone seeking to learn from the Party’s legacy with care and rigor. Through these materials, the goal is to move beyond surface-level understanding and engage the depth of the Party’s analysis, programs, and impact.
